UK CHARTS: Resi 5 equals series record

Capcom’s Xbox 360 and PS3 survival horror shooter Resident Evil 5 has matched the previous best chart performance for a title in the series following it’s third week at the top of the ELSPA GfK-ChartTrack All Formats Top 40.

The last game in the franchise to manage three consecutive UK number ones was Resident Evil 3 on PSOne, which was released in Europe in 2000. If RE5 can hold on to the top next week it can officially claim to be the series’ charts champion.

However, the game still has a long way to go to catch the overall best selling Resident Evil title, with GameCube, PS2, PC and Wii title Resident Evil 4 having sold around 6m units worldwide.

Resident Evil 5’s success this week came despite a 51 per cent drop in sales at retail.
