US: Nintendo praises ‘positive response’ to its hardware

Nintendo has released an understated, though understandably chuffed, response the news that Nintendo’s DS and Wii claimed first and second spots respectively in the US August hardware charts, according to data from NPD.

“The positive public response to Nintendo DS and Wii has stayed strong throughout 2008,” Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway stated. “New titles like Madden NFL 09 All-Play for Wii have joined top ten veterans like Wii Fit, demonstrating the wide and long-lasting appeal of Nintendo games.”

NPD figures show that DS and Wii sold 514,000 and 448,000 units each in August respectively. Lifetime sales of DS in the territory now number nearly 22 million, with Wii approaching the 12 million mark.
