US: Politicians call for ESRB review

In the wake of last month’s release of controversial Rockstar title Manhunt 2, four US senators including Hillary Clinton and Joe Lieberman have signed a letter calling for the review of US games body the Entertainment Software Rating Board,

reports.

This time last year said senators praised the ESRB for its comprehensiveness, but the about turn comes in the wake of the ESRB’s decision to downgrade Manhunt 2’s rating from Adults Only to Mature, with the political foursome claiming that the new rating is not sufficiently strict.

The letter read: We ask your consideration of whether it is time to review the robustness, reliability and repeatability of your ratings process, particularly for this genre of ‘ultra-violent’ videogames and advances in game controllers.”
