US PS3 sales up despite PSN outage

Sony has claimed that sales of PS3 consoles in the US climbed 14 per cent in May compared to the same month in 2010, according to NPD data

That the console has managed this despite the PSN outage that plagued the month is very impressive. And seemingly at odds with information released by NPD overnight.

It’s the fourth consecutive month that the console has enjoyed year-on-year sales gains.

"The PS3 platform is stronger than ever, and with the launch of Infamous 2, we continue to show our commitment to delivering the best and freshest content line-up available to our consumers," SCEA’s corporate communications boss Patrick Seybold stated.

"At E3 last week, we saw first-hand the consumer excitement for 3D, PlayStation Move and our first party franchise titles that will continue to drive the brand."
