SCEA’s communicatiosn director Patrick Seybold has stated that in December Sony’s PlayStation Network enjoyed its “single highest revenue month” in North America.
Though the exact numbers weren’t revealed revenue was up 155 per cent compared to the same period the year before. Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VIII was the most downloaded game throughout the period.
This digital success was mirrored by a strong period for PS3, which enjoyed its most successful Christmas to date selling 1.7m PS3s in North America alone.
Worldwide, the format-holder sold 3.8m PS3s for the five weeks from the end of November (from November 23 to December 27 for Japan and Asia, from November 24 to December 28 for North America, and from November 21 to December 25 for Europe and PAL territories).
