US: Target enters pre-owned sector

American retailer Target is to join the likes of Best Buy, Walmart, 7-Eleven and Toys R Us in offering shoppers the chance to trade in their old games and consoles for in-store credit.

Its pre-owned scheme was yesterday debuted in Northern California and is expected to be rolled out to a further 850 outlets by the end of the year, Gamasutra reports. It’s the latest development is a far more aggressive approach to the games sector at the chain.

Consumers will be able to use their credit against any item in store. Trade-ins will also be accepted via the Target website.

Target Electronics Trade-In offers our guests an opportunity to upgrade their consumer electronics items for less,” senior vice president Mark Schindele stated.
