US Vita supplies are running low

It’s apparently quite hard to get hold of a PlayStation Vita in the US at the moment.

Polygon reports that the launch of the Vita Slim in the territory in May as part of a Borderland 2 bundle has led to a shortage, with Sony struggling to match demand.

"We’re seeing healthy consumer demand for PS Vita globally, particularly in markets like Japan," a rep stated. "The US launch of the slimmer and lighter PS Vita has generated strong interest among gamers, and we’re working to replenish supply here to ensure continued momentum leading into the holidays."

Sony has been accused of shifting its focus away from Vita, specifically after the lack of first party game reveals for the device at E3.

Sony Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida admitted last month that indie games will provide the main body of content for the machine going forwards, with less in the way of Uncharted or Killzone style triple-A games planned.

In May SCEA’s product planning and platform software innovation director Don Mesa said that triple-A economics simply aren’t viable on handheld.
