Following its signing of football legend and global celebrity icon David Beckham to front its promotional campaign for EA Sports Active 2 in the UK and Europe, EA has announced that tennis star Venus Williams is to act as brand ambassador for the US campaign.
The game, which is in development for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and iPhone, allows gamers to build their strength, endurance and flexibility. It also monitors a user’s heart rate so it knows the level of workout it is eliciting,
It will be Kinect compatible on Xbox 360 but comes with a stand-alone motion sensor unit on PS3.
“Venus is one of the most recognisable, popular and accomplished tennis players in the world,” EA Sports Active VP of product strategy Jon Slavet stated.
“Her success can be attributed to both her talent as well as her dedication to fitness. Her commitment to healthy living and ability to inspire others makes her a natural fit for EA Sports Active 2.”
Venus herself added: “What I love about EA Sports Active is that it offers a variety of workouts that are both challenging and fun, which is important to keep me motivated. I’m excited to be working with EA Sports to show others that you can be active and reach your fitness goals while having fun at the same time.”
