Consumers are to be given the chance to try the HTC Vive VR experience at branches of Currys PC World.
Start Replay reports that an announcement looks likely this week.
To date only three outlets are scheduled to get a permanent VR area – London’s Tottenham Court Road, the Reading store next to the Madjeski stadium and an as of yet unspecified Leeds store, possibly at Crown Point.
The plan is currently for the stations to operate on a turn up and be served basis, with appointments not yet on the cards. There’s no word on what games will be available, although the HTC Vive launch line-up seems the most plausible.
The story also points out that buying the headset through Curry’s will save punters the quite astonishing 57.60 shipping price HTC is adding to online orders.
GAME said last year that it is already making plans to put aside some shelf space for VR titles, but while it has insisted that retail will play a crucial role in selling VR to consumers, we’re yet to hear about specific demo plans.
As an interesting aside, Oculus Rift seemingly has no plans to sell its hardware via retail. We’d expect this to change as the year rolls on.
