Vita sales slip to new low in Japan

Sony’s PlayStation Vita continues to struggle to establish itself in Japan, with weekly sales of the console hitting an all-time low.

The latest Media Create figures say Vita sold just 8,931 units last week in the territory – it’s the first time sales have fallen below 10,000.

In comparison, the 3DS sold 72,115 units in the same week. The week before Nintendo’s machine hit 121,921 sales.

PSP continues to track ahead of Vita, with weekly sales last week reaching 14,804.

It seems as if the situation is similar in the US, too.

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has described sales of the console as "meaningfully below our expectations", adding that March US sales reached just 125k units.

"We believe the PS Vita is unlikely to match its February unit sales figure in the near future as the buzz caused by its release dies down, and TV commercials become more infrequent," he added.
