Wiebe reclaims Donkey Kong record

It’s perhaps the most famous high-score rivalry in the world of video games and it shows no sign of letting up.

High score tracker Twin Galaxies has officially confirmed that Steve Wiebe has once again reclaimed the World Record for Nintendo’s arcade classic Donkey Kong, beating fierce rival Billy Mitchell into second spot.

The record was set on August 30th 2010 with a high score of 1,064,500 points. It’s the first time Wiebe has held the record since 2007.

The ongoing competition between Steve Wiebe and Billy Mitchell rose to prominence following the release of US documentary The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters in 2007. The film followed the likable Wiebe’s quest to get his accomplishments on the game recognised by Twin Galaxies, as well as his uneasy relationship with Mitchell.
