Nintendo will be showing off its upcoming Wii U console at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show – but don't expect anything new.

Speculation has been rife for the past few days as to whether or not Nintendo would attend the US event. These have now been confirmed via a statement sent to 1UP.

However, the format holder has emphasized that there will be no new announcements or new titles to play, and that only the press would have access to the device.

"Nintendo of America, working with the 2012 International CES management, will offer demos of the upcoming Wii U console to members of the media who did not see the system at the 2011 E3 Expo," the statement read.

"However, Nintendo will not have a booth at CES, nor does it plan to include any games, experiences or information beyond what was available at the 2011 E3 Expo.

Nintendo assured the industry that the Wii U was still on track to make its launch, which was given as "between the start of the 2012 E3 Expo in June, and the end of 2012".

CES 2012 takes place in Las Vegas next month. Rumours are abound that Microsoft will use the event to unveil its next Xbox console.
