Customers flocked to gaming stores to purchase tennis titles last week as Wimbledon got underway.

Sega's Virtua Tennis 4 hit No.5 in the UK Charts this week and 2K Sports' Top Spin 4 reached eighth postition.

In fact, were it not for the widespread stock issues on the latter title it would almost certainly have charted far higher.

Sega kicked off a second phase of marketing activity to capitalise on Wimbledon fever. Central to this is a series of 20-second TV ads now running on a selection of channels. This is supported by online placements across sports and lifestyle websites.

“Top Spin games have been incredibly popular during the Wimbledon fortnight, and given the excellent quality of Top Spin 4 we are very pleased to see this trend continue," 2K Games' UK marketing manager Simon Turner stated.

"We have worked hard with retail to make Top Spin 4 as accessible as possible to tennis fans, so we are pleased to see the game back in the Top 10.  Tennis is very much a summer sport so we expect to see Top Spin 4 continue to do well, especially if Andy Murray can do the business."

The 125th annual Wimbledon tennis tournament began on Monday June 20th and concluded yesterday.
