WoW welcomes 12 millionth user

Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed that PC online RPG World of Warcraft now has over 12m registered players worldwide.

The game first arrived in 2004 and has topped the PC charts ever since via sales of the original and its two expansions, The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich king. It’s now available in eight languages and is one of the few titles that can claim mass popularity in both Western and Eastern markets.

The new milestone comes after the game finally launched in China after numerous delays and technical mishaps. It also comes ahead of the release of third expansion Cataclysm on December 7th.

The support and enthusiasm that gamers across the world continue to show for World of Warcraft reaffirms our belief that it offers one of the best entertainment values available today,” Blizzard CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime explained.

We are as committed as ever to taking the game to new heights, and we look forward to demonstrating that with Cataclysm in December.”
