The 30-minute special will be broadcast across the globe, the firm breaking with tradition to unveil the new hardware to consumers before the trade.
"It doesn't make sense to unveil the product behind a closed door, at a trade-only event. We wanted to talk directly to the consumer first," said Xbox corporate marketing and publishing vice president Peter Moore (pictured), in an article in Brandweek.
Microsoft will also hold special parties in territories where MTV airs, to coincide with the event.
The special will be hosted by Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood, with key features of the console demonstrated by a range of celebrities and sports stars.
