Yamauchi says Gran Turismo 7 could hit PS4 next year

Gran Turismo 7 could be released on PS4 as early as 2014.

That’s according to series creator Kazunori Yamauchi, who told Top Gear that the expedited development cycle is due to PS4’s better” architecture.

"We don’t want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7," he stated. "Best-case scenario? Next year. In GT6 we really had to tune the software 100 per cent to maximise the PS3’s architecture, but of course the PS4’s hardware is much better, so I think the overall quality of the game across the board will be boosted when you come to play it.”

Such a quick turnaround would be quite remarkable for a studio such as Polyphony Digital which, despite being a master of its craft, is certainly not known for its haste.

Five years passed between the releases of Gran Turismo 4 on PS2 and PS3’s only entry in the series to date, 2010’s Gran Turismo 5, the latter of which was delayed numerous times.

Gran Turismo 6 will be hitting PS3 on December 6th, a week after the arrival of PS4 in the UK.
