Yo-Kai Watch is No.1 in Japan AGAIN

A new title in Level 5’s Yo-Kai Watch series has once again gone straight to No.1 in Japan.

Called Sangokushi, this release is a crossover between the popular Yo-Kai Watch franchise and Koei Tecmo’s Romance of the Three Kingdoms series.

Though Yo-Kai Watch claims yet another No.1, its initial sales of 263,637 units are relatively low in Yo-Kai Watch terms. Just for perspective, the IP’s second mainline entry sold 1.3 million copies on its launch week in July 2014. Sangokushi’s sales even pale compared with spin-off Busters, which launched in July 2015, selling almost 700,000 units.

Square Enix claimed No.2 this week with a new entry in its Star Ocean franchise. Integrity and Faithlessness sold 117,459 units in its first week.

There was a third new entry at the bottom of the Top Ten – Winning Post 8 2016 from Koei Tecmo, which sold 8,022 units on PS4.

Though the top two spots were taken by brand new 3DS and PlayStation 4 titles, these did not have much of an impact on hardware sales. PS4 unit sales dropped six per cent while New 3DS LL sales rose a mere 3.5 per cent.

Last week’s No.1, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 fell from the top spot to third place as sales decline 71 per cent. Dark Souls III – last week’s No.2 – drops to fourth with sales plummeting 81 per cent.
