Yokai Watch 2 finally dethroned in Japanese charts

Smash hit 3DS title Yokai Watch 2 has finally been knocked off the Japanese software chart top spot, according to the latest data from Famitsu.

The multi-million-selling title fell to fourth in the rankings last week, as a flood of new releases took the top three.

Coming in first was Koei Tecmo’s Vita edition of Toukiden: Kiwam, or ‘Legend of the Demon Slayers Extreme’ in English. The action RPG broke the 100,000 sales mark in its debut week on the chart, while the PSP version of the game landed in eighth place.

Fellow Vita title Love Live! School Idol Paradise fared almost as well in second, selling just shy of 90,000 units.

The Vita itself saw sales rise, selling almost 6,000 additional units in comparison to last week.

Meanwhile, Atlus’ fighting game spin-off sequel Persona 4: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold helped the PS3 to rise in the hardware chart, jumping above its successor, the PS4, as it almost tripled last week’s sales to become the fifth best-selling console in the region.

Sales were also assisted by the ambitiously-titled PS3 game Super Robot Taisen OG Saga Masoukishin F: Coffin of the End, which debuted in seventh in the software chart.

The various Japanese releases saw last week’s Western successes, The Last of Us Remastered and Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition, disappear.
