The next operating system update for PS4 is bring a wealth of new features to the console.
It’s likely to be welcome news for players, after a number of minor updates over the last few months offering ‘stability fixes’ and little else.
PS4 firmware 3.00 is currently in the midst of beta testing, with those helping to iron out the software ahead of release posting a list of the big additions and changes (via Japanese outlet Pocket News, translated by Reddit user ThaTiemsz).
Those who stream their gameplay online will glad to see that live YouTube broadcasting joins Twitch as an option. The service was already integrated for video uploads from the PS4.
There’s further video tweaks, too. Twitter users will be able to upload 10-second clips to the micro-blogging site directly from their console.
The PS4’s social functionality has seen a number of changes. There will be a dedicated area for events, as well as communities. The Now Playing tab will display what friends are up to, letting players jump into multiplayer games, join a party or watch the gameplay live.
Messages have been rearranged, making it easier to group friends and create parties.
There are also a number of accessibility additions and further minor alterations, plus the return of the PlayStation Network sub-account, allowing adult users to create accounts for younger players.
