Speaking to MCV in an exclusive interview, the French publisher president said: “We still don’t have a clear idea of their plans going forward.
“I only became aware of EA’s intentions to acquire the stake in Ubisoft the night before the public announcement.
“All of the senior management, including myself, were taken by surprise, as it is the first time in the industry that a publisher has taken a stake in a competitor without ensuring the other party’s agreement beforehand,” he continued.
Discussing what his own views were on EA’s reasons for acquiring the 19.9 per cent stake in Ubisoft, Guillemot explained: “Over the past four years our market share has increased by 150 per cent and we have developed a portfolio of eight multi-million brands.”
