Ballard named Warners digital chief

Warner Interactive has announced the appointment of former Glu Mobile CEO and Greg Ballard.

The exec announced his departure form the mobile games firm in July 2009 and has in the interim worked for mobile network firm Transpera. Prior to that he enjoyed a stint as COO and CEO of Warner Custom Music.

He will report to Digital president Thomas Gewecke and Warner Interactive president Martin Tremblay.

It’s a tremendous opportunity to join Warner Bros. Home Entertainment at this exciting time in the industry,” Ballard stated. Martin and Thomas have set out a clear strategy and vision for digital games and I’m looking forward to working with them and the rest of the team to realize that vision.”

However, in May of this year Warner announced the appointment of Jeff Junge into the exact same role. It’s unclear whether Junge has changed roles or left the company altogether. MCV has contacted Warner for clarification.

Mobile and online games are becoming a bigger part of the overall game industry,” Tremblay added.

Greg has a firm grasp on the complexities of this business from every angle and is the ideal candidate to lead our digital games efforts as we aggressively expand our presence in this growing market.”
