Car maker Subaru is hosting a $20,000 CS:GO event

Here’s some news we didn’t expect. Car manufacturer Subaru is hosting a $20,000 Counter-Strike competition in partnership with eSports agency Damage.

The 2017 Subaru Invitational will feature eight top CS:GO teams from North America battling it out for a share of the $20,000 prize pool on May 13th and 14th. The online competition will be streamed on the Subaru Twitch channel.

“Subaru is proud to support the young enthusiasts of the esports community through hosting our first invite-only tournament,” said Eric Park, Zone Retailer Marketing Manager at Subaru of America. “Our goal is to build brand affinity with a highly-engaged, dedicated millennial community that shares our core values and are ready for wherever the road takes them. Millennial esports fans have a fierce dedication to the games and its players. We understand and appreciate that kind of passion and it was an easy decision to dedicate ourselves to the esports movement.”

“Damage is thrilled to be working with such a passionate automotive brand that genuinely believes in the power of giving back and doing good,” said Brian Kim, managing partner for Damage, the company who will be doing the heavy lifting on the competition. “As Subaru’s esports partner, this is a tremendous opportunity to help design a tournament to reach our audience and further amplify esports on a global level.”
