Castle of Illusion update unveiled, digital launch planned for summer

An HD ‘reimagining’ of the 1993 Sega Genesis release Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse has been announced for PSN, XBLA, and Steam.

Sega revealed on its blog that the publisher is collaborating with Disney Interactive on the multi-platform title, with development being handled by Sega’s Aussie studio.

In a post on the Playstation blog, Sega senior brand manager Mai Kawaguchi states that the 2D/3D game looks to be a best of both worlds affair; in regards to blending the old school feel of the original with updated graphics and new content.

Our plan is to deliver a fully reimagined experience that takes advantage of the power of PS3 with all new graphics and new adventures, but maintains the Disney magic that the original Castle of Illusion captured in 1990.”

"We have also been working very closely with the director of the original game, who is now at Disney Interactive,” Kawaguchi added. We are having a blast working with her to realize many of the elements that were intended for the original game, but couldn’t be achieved until now due to the technical limitations of previous generation consoles.”

Castle of Illusion HD is scheduled to launch in the summer.
