Positech Games donating Democracy 3 sales to Charity for a 12 day stint

Cliff Harris donating sales to charity: “I thought it might be a good way to shame some bigger companies.”

Positech Games are donating all revenue from Steam sales of Democracy 3 between November 12 and December 2 to the charity War Child.

In an interview with Kotaku UK, Positech Games founder Cliff Harris said that in addition to trying to improve matters for children living in war-torn parts of the world: “I thought it might be a good way to shame some bigger companies.”

He suggested that it wasn’t just big and established companies that could make a real difference either, continuing: "There’s a whole swathe of indie developers that got lucky and suddenly made tens of millions of dollars and I’d like to think that they should do some good stuff with it. You can buy a nice car, PC, or house but some of these people are in their twenties and have made £10 million from their video game and you just think ‘Give one per cent away to charity for fuck’s sake.’"

This isn’t the first time Harris has donated to a good cause. Harris previously donated £18,000 to build a primary school in Cameroon. He says that previously, taking part in Humble Bundles he’s tried to select charities that work with underprivileged children and been refused because he works in video games, but was introduced to War Child and things moved from there.

Harris had previously noticed a War Child promotion where developers created an original title over a short period of time but felt it would be better to donate the revenues from an already successful game, adding: "I’d like to think somewhere on some message board somewhere, there’s someone going, ‘Why don’t EA do this for 12 days?’ That would make a staggering amount of money."
