Dream Reality Interactive unveils new AR game Orbu

Dream Reality Interactive has unveiled its first AR game for iOS. Developed using Apple’s newly-announced ARKit, Orbu will arrive on iPhones and iPad in early November.

In the game, players must control its titular creature to navigate a 3D, Japanese-themed garden. Here, they’ll be tasked with interacting with the real world environment in order to discover hidden items and solve puzzles. Each character moves with a simple slingshot action, and feeding fish and knocking food toward other animals will reward players with various gifts and bonuses.

More Orbu creatures will be available post-launch in addition to the initial crab, fox and turtle Orbus, but it’s not yet clear whether these will be available as a free download or in-app purchases.

Dave Ranyard, CEO of Dream Reality Interactive said: “Orbu is a fun and easy to play AR game, which we hope everyone will enjoy. We want to give people the chance to step out of their busy lives and enjoy a beautiful garden whenever they want to.

Having worked in the immersive technology of AR and VR for over a decade, this feels like the first time a large audience can really enjoy this kind of experience. Using ARKit has made an enormous difference to development of Orbu. We’re super excited by about what we can do with it!”

Founded by former studio head of Sony London Studio Dave Ranyard, Dream Reality Interactive is also working on a Factory 42 production called Hold the World for Sky featuring Sir David Attenborough. We’ll also be speaking to Ranyard in the next issue of MCV, so make sure to check back next Friday to hear his thoughts on what’s next for augmented reality.
