Riddick group working on new IP with Josef Fares

Film director charms Starbreeze with game pitch

Swedish triple-A studio Starbreeze has announced it is co-developing a new game based on original IP.

And the Chronicles of Riddick developer is partnering with a local media design group, called The Story Lab, to produce the game, along with film director Josef Fares (pictured).

Starbreeze, which remains an independent triple-A studio, is also in full production on EA’s Syndicate project.

Last year Electronic Arts decided to cancel Starbreeze’s second project – a game built on the Jason Bourne series – in a move that freed up many staff at the studio.

Starbreeze’s second project, which has yet to be publicly named, was born when film director Josef Fares pitched his idea to the studio.

“I love games, and I have been working on a games concept for quite some time,” Fares said.

“The more I worked with the concept, the more convinced I felt that this is a solid game idea.”

Starbreeze CEO Mikael Nermark said the studio was convinced by the project “just minutes into Fares’s presentation.”

“We started to work on the concept the very same day” he said.
