New Pontypridd office to house up to 60 employees

Garden Party dev OysterWorld opens Wales studio

London-based game developer OysterWorld is to open a new studio in South Wales.

As reported by WalesOnline, the new office for the game developer will be based in Pontypridd and will eventually house around 60 jobs.

The new studio is being supported by a £1 million investment from the Welsh Government.

“Wales was in competition with Canada for this project so I am delighted to welcome Oyster World to Wales," said Wales economy minister Edwina Hart.

"The Welsh Government is fully committed to accelerating the growth of digital media businesses in Wales and the development of the games industry is an integral part of this aim.

“We have a growing pool of talent in games development, with universities becoming increasingly aligned to the needs of the sector and spinning out a large number of micro businesses.

“Attracting a significant player like OysterWorld, which is producing internationally successful titles, is a significant boost and sends out a strong message to the industry that Wales has the skills and talent to support this niche sector.”

OysterWorld has previously worked on titles for online, console and handheld, including Driver: San Francisco, Peppa Pig: The Game and Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth.

The developer has also worked on social game Garden Party, which has garnered 300,000 players and 25,000 monthly active users to date from its beta.
