Kindle Fire enjoys best ever sales day as Amazon posts UK sales of £3.4bn

There was a standout performer from Amazon’s Black Friday sales last week – its iPad-rivalling Kindle Fire.

The tablet PC enjoyed its best ever sales during the period having been discounted to just 99. The machine normally sells for 129. Although exact sales numbers were not revealed, Amazon did confirm that its overall sales bettered its previous one-day record by a factor of three.

The news comes as confidential Amazon documents leaked to the press reveal that Amazon made 3.4bn in the UK last year.

Of that, 2.91bn was made directly from Amazon.co.uk with the rest coming from subsidiaries such as LoveFilm. Before tax profit came in at 74m.

PC Pro reports that the number has come to light despite the request of Amazon’s director of EU public policy that it should be kept private. That request was made in his grilling at the hands of MPs earlier this month during their official enquiry into tax avoidance.
