Left 4 Dead 2 heading to Linux, Steam client for Ubuntu in the works

Valve has confirmed it is working on a Steam client for the Linux-based Ubuntu operating system, adding that Left 4 Dead 2 will be the debut title for it.

The new team of 11 made the announcements by introducing themselves on Valve’s new Linux blog Steam’d Penguins.

Currently there aim is to create a complete Steam client for Ubuntu 12.04, and a compatible release of Left 4 Dead 2 which works ‘as well as the Windows version.’

At the moment Ubuntu is the company’s lone choice for Linux distribution, but their plan is to ‘look at supporting other distributions in the future.’

No release dates were provided, but the team promises to keep us all updated.
