LG calls for US PS3 ban

LG Electronics has called for the International Trade Commission to block sales of the PS3 and other Sony products in the US.

The firm claims Sony’s Blu-ray players – including the PS3 – infringe on four patents regarding data streaming, while some of the Japanese corporation’s high-definition TVs infringe on four others.

This complaint follows Sony’s own civil suit against LG, with the company claiming that a number of LG mobile phones infringe on seven Sony patents, according to Bloomberg.

Should the ITC rule in favour of LG, the commission has the power to ban products that violate US patents from sale in North America. The region accounts for more than 20 per cent of both Sony and LG’s revenue.
