Packaged sales down and digital up as EA claims iOS crown; FIFA smashes records

EA has reported a decline in revenues for FY13 Q3 with a surge in digital sales unable to offset a decline in physical games sales.

Digital net revenue for the quarter ending December 31st climbed from $274m last year to $321m, but revenue from packaged goods fell from $738m to $568m.

GAAP net loss was reduced from $205m to $45m.

"Despite a challenging quarter, we were able to deliver non-GAAP EPS at the high end of our guidance range," CEO John Riccitiello stated. "We are investing for the future wave of growth that we foresee in digital and console."

COO Peter Moore added: "EA had six of the top twenty titles in Western markets in 2012, compared to four in 2011. EA was also the No.1 publisher on iOS worldwide for the year."

FIFA 13 was one of the star performers, shifting 12m units up to and including the period – a 23 per cent increase over FIFA 12. FIFA 13’s digital revenues climbed an incredible 98 per cent, passing $100m. Total FIFA series digital revenue stands at over $230m year-to-date

The Battlefield 3 Premium service has now generated over $108m.

EA’s Origin service now has over 39m users including 17m mobile users. The company added that Dead Space 3 pre-orders are ahead of those enjoyed by Dead Space 2 while Crysis 3 pre-orders are tracking 40 per cent ahead of Crysis 2.
