New media outfit offers redundant Dundee developers an alternative to job applications

Revolver hosting Dundee start-ups workshop

Revolver, working in conjunction with Interactive Tayside, is to host a workshop for those looking to launch their own start up studios in Dundee; a development hub recently hit by the Realtime Worlds and Cohort closures.

Designed for developers who have recently found themselves redundant, as well as existing start-ups, the workshop is to bring together a number of speakers offering advice on creating a studio, funding for games, marketing and PR, protecting IP and taking a game to market.

“The most exciting and innovative areas in the games market are those in the independent areas, where smaller companies are targeting new platforms and digital distribution channels," said Brian Baglow, Revolver’s head of interactive entertainment.

"However starting a new company can be daunting, so we’ve lined up a wide range of experts, who can provide insight into all the areas a new studio will face, from the very basic business essentials, through to publishing your first game and making sure people know about it.”

Speakers will include representatives from Scottish Enterprise, Blitz and Abertay University.

Tiga CEO Dr Richard Wilson also offered his support for the event: “The recent redundancies have been a huge blow to the interactive sector in the UK. However there is a huge amount of talent and experience around Dundee and we’d like as much of it as possible to stay in the country create their own studios. There are already many young, high-growth start-ups in Tayside and we hope this workshop will be the first step in welcoming many more.”

The workshop is taking place in the Scottish Enterprise Dundee offices at 12pm on Tuesday August 31st. Those looking for a place can email Revolver direct.
