Reward schemes ‘very important’ to the future of Xbox Live

With the Xbox Live rewards scheme now up and running in Australia and New Zealand, MCV talks to Andrew Jenkins, Group Xbox Live Program Manager.

Other service-based industries (which the games industry is rapidly becoming) have had reward programs for some time. Why do you think it has taken so long for games to adopt them?

We’ve always given tRewaro our Xbox Live loyal members from early access to game demos, discounts and deal of the week specials, to exclusive services and community events. The Xbox Live rewards program continues on this trend by offering yet another way to give to our loyal Xbox Live members.

How important do you think reward programs will be for subscription based gaming services in the future?

For Xbox Live specifically it’s very important. Xbox Live prides itself on delivering outstanding features and services. We launched our rewards program as a way to further enhance the Live experience but also to thank our loyal XBox Live members. We’re confident they’ll love receiving Microsoft Points and other rewards.

Does Microsoft plan to expand the rewards in future and tie them into other actions on XBox Live?

Yes, but we can share any specifics at this time. Members will get rewarded for doing what they love on Xbox Live, including trying new features, downloading games – and of course, if they continue their Xbox Live Gold membership.

Xbox Live rewards activated for Australia and New Zealand one week ago. A full list of the actions and associated rewards can be found here.
