Sniper 2 set for big LA reveal

The sequel to the surprise smash hit of last summer is getting its full reveal at E3.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 – which has been built using CryEngine 3, the same engine that powered recent No.1 Crysis 2 – is one of two video games to be revealed by City Interactive at the upcoming L.A. showcase.

We are focusing on two projects at E3 this year – Sniper 2 and Combat Wings, the latter being a new IP,” said marketing and PR chief Jon Goddard.

What we are showing can compete with other titles from much bigger and more established publishers.

We haven’t shown anything of Sniper 2 and the ambition with this game is even greater than the first. Obviously, buying in CryEngine 3 is a big part of that. Going out and buying a cutting-edge engine shows our ambition.”

Goddard joined City Interactive from EA earlier this month, and he told MCV he’s excited to be part of the firm’s ambition to become a major global publishing power.

City Interactive is at an interesting transitional phase,” he said. Sniper has been a huge success around the world and has come at a time when the company is considering becoming even bigger. City has great upcoming projects like Combat Wings and one that ex-Codemasters developer Stuart Black is working on, it has great ambition and really good people who have the ability to push the company on further.

To be a part of that bold expedition into a bigger market place is really exciting. There is also an ambition to expand into social media and mobile gaming and we are looking to bring in talent for that. Our plans are aggressive but also realistic and I will be working with the management team to define how we expand.

I have the experience of working at a big publisher and I am familiar with what you need to be a publisher on a global scale.”

Sniper: Ghost Warrior took retail by surprise last year and was nominated in the sales triumph category at last month’s MCV Awards. Sniper 2 will be released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
