Team Dignitas becomes fifth outfit in two weeks to drop Overwatch team

Team Dignitas has dropped it’s Overwatch team, making them the fifth team in the last two weeks to step away from the competitive Overwatch scene.

Dignitas didn’t give a specific reason for folding the team — although we wrote about why teams might be stepping away from the game’s competitive side last week — and all six of the team’s players are now free agents.

The players let go are Marcel ‘Veinless’ Lehmann, Elvinas ‘Evokje’ Padegimas, Patrick ‘Wat7’ Marwal, Jose Antonio ‘BromaS’ Romas Gonzales, Joshua ‘ToxikeN’ Campos, Jiri ‘LiNkz’ Masalin. This roster most recently competed together at the EU Overwatch PIT Championship in April where they placed third.

Dignitas have said that they are “still committed” to Overwatch, and that they are remaining “optimistic about the long-term opportunity it presents for teams, players, spectators and fans.”

The exodus of endemic esports organisations parting ways with Overwatch is probably causing something of a headache for Blizzard right now, but many of the organisations disbanding their teams have cited uncertainty in the pro-scene. A strong announce for Blizzard’s Overwatch League could see the teams clamouring to get back involved, however, for now, the state of Overwatch as a competitive game is looking a bit shaky.
