Total Recall getting the MMO treatment

Next year’s remake of TriStar Pictures’ 1990 sci-fi movie Total Recall is to be transformed into an MMO.

The original film was directed by Paul Verhoeven and was based on Philip K Dick novel We Can Remember It For You Wholesale.

It sees hero Arnold Schwarzenegger play the part of Douglas Quaid, who voluntarily undergoes a procedure that will insert the memory of a holiday directly into his brain.

Chinese studio ZQGame is developing the new title, with SEE Games enlisted as the publisher.

It will run on a bespoke engine designed to pump out 3D visuals in a regular web browser.

"Total Recall is an international phenomenon; we know this well-known property will make a great 3D browser based game," commented Sony Pictures exec Mark Caplan.

"With SEE Games and ZQGame’s expertise, Total Recall will offer fans of the franchise and gamers alike an engaging and authentic experience – one that will deliver everything that the fans expect and will dovetail perfectly with the upcoming film."

The new film, which is directed by Len Wiseman and stars Colin Farrell, is due out in August of next year.
