Tropico 5 banned by Thai government

The military government of Thailand has banned the sale of strategy title Tropico 5.

The ministry of culture reportedly felt the game would impinge upon Thailand’s national security, most likely due to its focus on themes such as martial law, military coups and dictatorships.

Thailand has been under military rule since May following a coup that dispensed with the democratically elected government.

"It’s a good game with positive reviews," New Era Thailand’s marketing manager Nonglak Sahavattanapong told the Associated Press.

"We’ve had licences to distribute Tropico 3 and 4 before, but in the fifth instalment, the storyline has developed further and there might be some part of it that’s not appropriate in the current situation."

The publisher has no plans to appeal against the decision. We wonder why.
