Team consists of seven ex-Crytek USA staff

Vigil founder opens new studio Gunfire Games

The founder of Darksiders developer Vigil Games has opened a new independent studio called Gunfire Games.

The team consists seven staff from Crytek USA, which had been headed by David Adams and consisted of two-thirds of the Vigil team.

Speaking to Polygon, Adams said the studio was formed in part due to the financial problems going on at the publisher.

"Forming another independent studio was something that I thought about because of what was going on," he said.

"It got to the point where people were starting to leave."

Adams added the studio is weighing up returning to the Darksiders IP, currently owned by Nordic Games, and admitted the team has been in discussions with the publisher.

There have also been discussions however over work on a number of other projects.

“We’re looking at some smaller short-term deals to keep the guys working," he said.

"We do want to get a solid idea of what we’re going to do next so we can make an informed decision about the engine we’ll be using and the size of the team.

"We have a couple of good ideas. One of them is for an original idea, one is to work on an established IP. A couple of alternatives is more about helping other projects."
