Nintendo announces AU/NZ price drop for 3DS

Nintendo Australia has confirmed its plans to drop the suggested retail price of the 3DS in Australia and New Zealand, starting 12th August.

The current SRP for the 3DS is AUD$349.95, and the price drop will see it retailing in Australia for AUD$249.95 or NZD$343.99 in New Zealand.

Nintendo Australia also plans to compensate fans who purchased the handheld at its original price by offering 10 NES games and 10 Game Boy / GBA games to anyone who connects to the Nintendo eShop before the 12th August.

The NES games will be available from 1st of September, and include Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong Jr and The Legend of Zelda.

The Game Boy / GBA games will be available ‘by the end of 2011’ and will include Yoshi’s Island, Super Mario Advance 3 and Metroid Fusion.

Only members of the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program can download the Game Boy / GBA titles, which are not planned for release to the general public, and the NES games will be available to ambassadors ahead of their scheduled release.

This price drop comes only four and a half months after the 3DS’ release in Australia and New Zealand.
