NINTENDO: Pikmin 3 finally unveiled

Two years after Nintendo first teased a sequel to its nature strategy game, the platform holder has finally revealed the first details of Pikmin 3.

Shigeru Miyamoto kicked off Nintendo’s E3 press conference with a demo of the game, claiming that the enhanced resolution of Wii U makes it easier to see the individual Pikmin.

There are new types of Pikmin, such as the rock Pikmin that can break obstacles, as well as new abilities such as building bridges.

The game can be controlled with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, although opting to use the Wii U Gamepad as well gives players a view of the map. Alternatively, the Wii U Gamepad can be used on its own to quickly move around the map and command the little critters.

Gamers will control up to four leaders – although cryptically none of them will be series protagonist Captain Olimar. "The reason for that is a secret," teased Miyamoto.

No word on a release date yet.
