Development of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance has switched from Kojima Productions to Vanquish studio Platinum Games.
During the Spike Video Game Awards this weekend, Konami revealed the game had been rebooted and renamed. Andriasang reports the action title had been previously canned in secret.
Tweets from Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima suggested the staff at Kojima Productions ‘no longer knew what the core of the game should be’. The project was secretly cancelled halfway through before Platinum Games approached Kojima Productions to take on development duties.
Platinum – the creators of Vanquish, Bayonetta and Madworld – said they wanted to remake Rising’s storyline. Kojima also stressed that Rising is a brand new game and not a sequel in the Metal Gear Solid series.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is still due on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, but doesn’t currently have a release date.
