Activate3D Announces Free Community Version of Intelligent Character Motion

ATLANTA, GA,  Feb. 3, 2011—   Activate3D ( www.Activate3D.com) has released its Free Community Edition of Intelligent Character Motion (ICM), a software product that enhances character motion in video games utilizing Kinect on the PC.  The Free Community Edition is available at no charge for non-commercial applications.  

ICM integrates in real-time a player’s motion with their intended in-game action, giving the player more nuanced control of their character and a feeling of total immersion in the game world.  It extends the skeletal software capabilities delivered by OpenNI and PrimeSense’s NITE SDK and frees designers from the labor-intensive work of scripting every possible movement in the game.

The key capabilities delivered in the community edition include solutions for grasp detection in virtual worlds, inverse kinematics algorithms to enforce contact with objects, a high-speed motion recognition algorithm that detects mimicking even with partial body input, and a patented algorithm for synthesizing animations that fit seamlessly with a physics simulation powered with PhysX by NVIDIA.

ICM is available via download at www.activate3d.com and supports the OpenNI™ v1.0 with the NITE v1.3 skeleton SDK on PC.  The ICM SDK is fully documented and provides tutorials and example code. 

The commercial version of ICM, currently in beta, will launch at the Game Developers Conference in March.
