Adrenaline Amusements acquires Sarbakan

Montreal and Quebec, Canada – May 22, 2013 – Adrenaline Amusements, a leading developer of a new breed of arcade video game machines, announced today that it has acquired Sarbakan, a renowned independent game studio with over a decade’s worth of experience in developing highly creative original IPs and work-for-hire games. The amount of the transaction remains undisclosed.

Adrenaline acquired Sarbakan to accelerate its push into the mobile gaming market. While for both companies it will be business as usual for their core businesses, Adrenaline and Sarbakan will together offer clients a truly unique combination of mobile and arcade games to help push their brands further in their respective markets. Together, they will expand the scope of original IP and custom-brand development services for clients worldwide. The crossover between platforms generates an impressive branding power and reach—and will position Adrenaline and Sarbakan as a major player in the gaming industry.

“The mobile gaming market represents a significant opportunity for Adrenaline,” explained François Lachance, CEO of Adrenaline. “The acquisition strategically fits with our vision to offer world-class original IP and custom-brand games for both arcade and mobile users. Sarbakan’s creative prowess is second to none and we are thrilled to be working with such innovative minds.”

“Adrenaline harnesses a distinct opportunity in the marketplace—one that is sure to generate breakthrough after breakthrough in gameplay experiences,” said Guy Boucher,Studio GM of Sarbakan. “We are proud to be now working with Adrenaline. The concept of merging mobile and arcade games is very unique and—until now—only offered by one or two major industry players. We are looking forward to building exciting new games with fascinating twists. We are confident that Sarbakan will continue to flourish as a best-in-class game studio for years to come.”

Sarbakan and Adrenaline Amusements will be launching some exciting new arcade and mobile projects at E3 in June.

About Adrenaline Amusements

Adrenaline Amusements builds entertainment products for today’s kids—and for the kid in every one of us. Adrenaline’s mission is to develop and introduce a new breed of entertainment products to the arcade industry. Since its foundation in 2010, Adrenaline has worked to align the coin-op industry with what is played today. The company’ first multi-touch platform was introduced for the first time on November 2010 under the name TouchFX. The first game that was introduced was a version of the popular app Fruit Ninja, with other arcade machines featuring Infinity Blade and Flight Control games following soon after. Adrenaline launched the new cross-platform franchise Blackout, starting with the arcade version in November 2012 and with the mobile version coming soon.

While video games’ gameplay has evolved from traditional controls to multi-touch surfaces, the arcade game industry has not adapted to the trends of today’s players. Along with newly acquired Sarbakan, Adrenaline plans to change the game.
