Rome, May 9th, 2011
AIOMI, the Italian Association for the Interactive Multimedia - Movement for Videogame Culture, is proud to announce its partnership with the IGDA, the International Game Developers Association ( www.igda.org).
The aforementioned partnership represents a further important step on the long path started two years ago with the partnership between AIOMI and the IGDA Education Special Interest Group, that brought Susan Gold, Education SIG Leader at the time, so that she could keynote at the 2009 edition of the Italian Videogame Developers Conference ( www.ivdconf.com). It also opened the way in Italy for the Global Game Jam ( www.globalgamejam.org), one of the biggest world initiatives in the field of the independent game development, organized now in Italy in Catania (E-Ludo Interactive), Verona (University of Verona) and Genoa (Elios Lab/University of Genoa). During the last Cartoons on the Bay 2011, the International Festival of TV and Cross-medial Animation, organized by RAI and directed by Roberto Genovesi, the Executive Director of IGDA Gordon Bellamy, in Italy for the first time ever, attended the event.
The IGDA is the biggest non-profit organization in the world which helps people who want to develop videogames. Its mission is to support the conditions of their profession, to cultivate professional networking, and to promote game development, focusing on all the matters that are most felt by the community of the game developers.
The partnership between AIOMI and IGDA is mutually beneficial to the accomplishment of their shared missions, the promotion and growth of the world’s game development community. This is the reason why AIOMI is particularly committed in supporting the growth and networking of the Italian chapters of IGDA.
“This partnership with IGDA represents a very important goal indeed for AIOMI, in order to support the videogame culture in Italy”, said Marco Accordi Rickards, President of AIOMI.“In particular, AIOMI will offer all its space and instruments to the Italian Chapters of IGDA for free, starting at the IVDC”.
“We are proud to collaborate with a thought leader organization like AIOMI”, Gordon Bellamy, Executive Director of IGDA, commented.“This new partnership will serve and amplify our mission of professional development and elevation of our craft for the IGDA Italy game development community and throughout Europe”.
