Award-Winning Composer Releases CD That Helps Game Developers

Los Angeles, Ca. -- Penka Kouneva’s much-anticipated A Warrior’s Odyssey hit the market this month, with the most interesting response coming from independent game developers.  A Warrior’s Odyssey is an artist’s album, featuring 18 tracks of action-combat, drama, and fantasy themes in modern cinematic style, with live orchestra, choir, and top Hollywood musicians.  Powerfully dramatic, Kouneva’s emotional compositions immediately garnered attention from developers who were mid-production on their action and dark fantasy projects.

Pierre Roux, CEO of   Empty Flask Games released Infinite Warrior in early September to great reviews and early feedback that players wanted an expanded game to match the grand aesthetics already in place.  The problem of a depleted budget found some resolution when Roux, as a member of Kouneva’s network, received an email announcement about A Warrior’s Odyssey...and an invitation for Roux to utilize music from the CD anywhere he needed in his game.  Says Roux, “as soon as I heard the first track, I felt it was awesome.  As I kept listening, I was thinking about what level I should be making next to complement Penka's music.”

Johnny Waynick, CEO and Lead Artist of Gallaxy Interactive learned of Roux’s good fortune from a mutual contact on Linkedin.  The studio’s newest project, a dark fantasy game called Age of Blood , was in need of just the right tone to set the sci-fi atmosphere.  With a thin budget and deadlines approaching, Waynick wasted no time requesting a copy of A Warrior’s Odyssey   “It was like every track was there to help us write a better story,” says Waynick.

While Waynick and Roux have reasons for their own excitement,  Kouneva has been receiving endorsements on the CD from veterans in both film and games.  Chance Thomas is an Oscar and  Emmy-winning veteran game composer, with credits that include Avatar, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Marvel, Monopoly, and King Kong.  Remarking about the Waiting for Dawn to Break track, Thomas says, “the cello, tick-tocking, bass harmonics, guitar effects – it sets up an incredibly gripping feel.  When the cello comes back against the ambient texture and percussion, it’s SO evocative.”

Sundance Advisor, George S. Clinton, who was also composer for the Austin Powers trilogy and Mortal Kombat, had this to say: "Don't you love it when a film score is so compelling that, as you are listening to it, you find yourself saying 'God, I have GOT to see this movie!‘ That was my experience in hearing A Warrior's Odyssey.  But, the movie only exists in Penka Kouneva's fertile and vivid cinematic imagination.”

Kouneva has been sharing the CD with game developers who have made a request for a copy.  Permission for developers to utilize tracks from the CD within their games is based on particulars of the request and agreement of some collaborative details.  Information, an email address for contact, and a sampling from A Warrior’s Odyssey can be found at http :// www . penkakouneva . com
