AXA Private Equity buys into BulkyPix to support its growth

Paris, San Francisco - May 29, 2012

BulkyPix, an international leader in digital gaming publishing and development on smartphones and tablets, has announced that Axa Private Equity has taken a stake in its equity.

With close to 100 games in its catalog, including MyBrute, Aby Escape, The Sandbox and Saving Private Sheep to name but a few, BulkyPix has gone on to become one of the leading players in the video games market for smartphones and tablets in less than three years. BulkyPix - a developer, a co-producer and a publisher - currently employs 40 people and works with around 50 independent studios. BulkyPix has also created a BtoB department, BulkyApps, in a bid to develop, produce and publish applications and games for such major groups as Véolia, Hachette, Siemens, Orange, Samsung, Antalis, TF1 and France Television.

This buy-in will give BulkyPix the necessary equity to strengthen its R&D department, expand its games catalog and raise the sales development bar on both a national and international scale.

"We are delighted to welcome Axa Private Equity into our funding round. In Axa Private Equity, we have found people that champion the same values and share our vision of the market. The funds raised will not only enable us to step up our R&D efforts and thereby develop games and apps on multiple platforms at the same time (smartphones, Facebook, connected TV, etc.), but also increase our footprint in France and abroad, and hone our image as an independent publisher," explains Olivier Pierre, CEO of BulkyPix.

"The fact that BulkyPix is no ordinary publisher is probably because we develop our games ourselves in-house. As a result, we face the same difficulties as the studios that we work with. Drawing strength from this experience, we have worked alongside our studio partners in developing a fair model based on mutual respect and focusing on a long-term partnership. BulkyPix has already lent its support to the production of independent video games spearheaded by such talented studios as Mando Production (Babel Running and Babel Rising), Pixel Ratio (Aby Escape), Egg Ball (Jazz, The Pirate King and A Moon for the Sky), cTools (Kung Fu Rabbit) and Pastagames (Pix'N Love and Burn It All), and we will be ramping up our support in the upcoming months."

Antoine Lacour, Director of AXA Private Equity, advises: "BulkyPix's founders are seasoned experts recognized in their market, and they have proven their ability to grow in a fast- changing sector fuelled by the explosion in smartphones, touch tablets and social networking.

The company quickly carved its status as one of the leading independent publishers in France and abroad. We are delighted to support the firm with its growth plans."
