BE PART OF GAMING GROWTH IN SA WITH THE RAGE EXPO

Africa’s largest technology and video gaming exhibition, the really AWESOME gaming expo (rAge) celebrates a decade of gaming in 2012 after the expo generated an unprecedented turnout last year increasing feet through the door by just over 29% from 2010.

“The explosive growth we have experienced with rAge is really a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire video gaming community and its media.  Driven by passion, the community has unwaveringly cultivated the gaming culture in South Africa to the massive beast that it is today; and we are proud to say that rAge is an integral part of this,” says Michael James, Senior Project Manager on rAge.

As one of South Africa’s fastest growing expos, rAge taps into a market that is growing just as quickly.  Recent statistics from the GFK Group, a local market research company, revealed that South Africa’s video gaming market is currently worth R1.72 billion. This figure excludes digital game sales, yet is inclusive of hardware, peripherals and physical game sales.

According to Factbox, in June 2011 the global video game market was valued at US$65 billion, with video gaming becoming increasingly entrenched into the domestic culture of at least 72% of US households.  Established through a comprehensive study conducted by Entertainment Software Association in the United States, fantastic statistics expose just how widespread video gaming is; such as the fact that 29% of US gamers are over the age of 50, and 42% of all gamers are female – a number that continues to climb.  Furthermore, 59% of American parents believe that video games are beneficial for their children; and 45% of parents play with their kids on a weekly basis.

Such research reveals video gaming’s continued growth beyond the pale, spectacled, geek stereotype to a virtually all encompassing demographic which includes men, women and children of all ages.

Taking place from 05-07 October 2012 at the Coca-Cola Dome in Gauteng, rAge has gained an extensive following within the burgeoning local gaming community.  The expo consistently delivers the latest technological developments, new and pre-released games on console and pc, the hottest consoles, creative-arts learning opportunities, product launches, competitions and giveaways, exclusive presentations by international game developers, and so much more.

Furthermore, the annual 72-hour BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) NAG LAN @ rAge has also enjoyed annual growth and exponential popularity.  Despite a 500 seat increase in the NAG LAN ticket allocation to a total of 2196 gamers in 2011, tickets sold out a mere 4 hours after becoming available for sale at Computicket!  A niche audience with unwavering passion for almost everything associated with gaming and its various subcultures, the NAG LAN attendees are hardcore, dedicated gamers that constitute a marketing goldmine; that is for those marketers who respect their discerning and well-tuned appetite for ground-breaking games and revolutionary gaming paraphernalia.

Businesses operating within the entertainment technology and video gaming sector enjoy the benefits of an educated audience with large sums of disposable income, yet any misunderstanding of the market’s media consumption habits may render marketing efforts ineffective.

Top marketers in virtually every industry have known for years that participation in the right exhibition is an exceptionally effective marketing medium that gets cash registers ringing.  Exhibitions bring your most active prospects and customers directly to you; one is able to demonstrate products – a vital requirement in the video game industry - while harnessing the senses to drive home your message; allows you to further virtually all of your marketing goals at the same time from long-term brand building to immediate sales, researching the market to generating media coverage, launching new products to entertaining loyal customers as well as educating prospects and collecting high-quality leads.

These are just a few of the unique benefits exhibitions offer to complement your marketing efforts in a measurably cost-effective way.   In addition to this, extensive sponsorship opportunities not only offer significant brand presence to a niche audience but also offer brand favourability by means of association.
