BIONITE: Origins

Platoon Studios happens to be creating such a video game and is getting ready for a second shot at crowd-funding. This time around, they are looking towards IndieGoGo users to help the team continue development. With the small success on Kickstarter just four months ago -- raising $21,457 total -- the studio is excited for their IndieGoGo campaign, as it will be a better suit for the international team.

"IndieGoGo isn't as well known for crowd-funding independent games, but their platform fits our team best." said Dan Rhodenizer, Marketing Director of BIONITE: Origins.

BIONITE: Origins is a futuristic, First-Person Shooter & Real-Time Strategy hybrid for the PC and iOS platforms. The core gameplay consists of piloting hovertanks in first-person, destroying other tanks or structures, commanding your squad to attack/defend certain targets, and a full strategy mode with base-building in the Strat game-mode. The game is being developed with the Unreal 3 Engine and will later be released digitally through Steam & other distribution sites.

The team's primary focus is to bring back the almost-forgotten FPS/RTS hybrid genre. With BIONITE: Origins being seen as the spiritual successor of the 1998 critically acclaimed PC game "Battlezone," Platoon Studios has a lot to live up to, but look to be on the right track, as William Stahl, Lead Designer of Battlezone 2, has helped guide the team in the right direction.

"I've been in touch with a few guys who helped develop Battlezone" mentioned Dan. "They're all very passionate developers -- as passionate about Battlezone as we are -- we've been fortunate to have William by our side, having a veteran like him involved with the process is always a bonus."

BIONITE: Origins really took off when John Grisnik (now project lead) joined the team back in 2010.

"The amount of dedication, time and effort John has put into this game is crazy," said Dan. "It's a rare thing, we've been working on this game with an almost-zero budget. But, we feel strongly about what we're doing. This game is being made because we're fans too and it's about time us fans have something refreshing to play again."

One of the game's strengths will be its detailed gameplay and attention to detail. Besides blowing up other hovertanks, destroying buildings, or demolishing entire enemy bases, players can explore massive, real-life environments on a series of different planets. Great care has also been taken by the team to have all models appear as real and functional as possible.

"Even though this is a sci-fi game, it's still happening very close to home. So the team has gone to great lengths when engineering the units to be functional and grounded in reality" said Vlad Neagu, Lead Modeler of BIONITE: Origins.
