Blitz celebrates the UK games industry with Made in Creative UK

Blitz Games Studios today unveils Made in Creative UK, an initiative which aims to highlight and celebrate video games produced in the UK and the developers behind them.

The campaign invites participants to display the Made in Creative UK logo in their games and play an important part in recognising the economic and cultural contribution of the UK games sector to the global games industry.

The 2011  Livingstone-Hope review reported that although UK video games companies are responsible for some of the best-selling and highest grossing franchises in the world, this success does not equate with public awareness that there are UK companies behind them.

Philip Oliver, CEO, Blitz Games Studios: “So few people are aware that some of their favourite games are made here in the UK, and that the UK games industry has a rich heritage and deserved reputation for originality, creativity and innovation. We want the world to recognise video games made in the UK as a sign of quality.”

The initiative is open to all game developers; in order to qualify 50% or more of the creative labour of the project needs to have been produced in the UK. Developers can obtain the logo from the Made in Creative UK website:  www.MadeInCreativeUK.com.

The first game to display the logo is Blitz’s latest iOS release,  Paper Titans, which recently received the Editor’s Choice award on the App Store worldwide, and which embodies the core tenets of Made in Creative UK, showcasing the originality, creativity and innovation of UK produced games.

Over 20 developers have confirmed their support of the initiative including Mind Candy, Crytek UK, Revolution, Playdemic and Full Fat Games. A full list of current supporters can be found at  www.MadeInCreativeUK.com/Supporters.

Made in Creative UK also has the backing of key government and industry figures, including Ed Vaizey MP, Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries: “The UK has a proud history of video game production and it’s wonderful to see the industry exploring ways in which Britain’s contributions to the worldwide market can be both acknowledged and celebrated.”

Whilst the initiative is being spearheaded by Blitz Games Studios it is hoped that in due course an independent body that represents creative industries in the UK will assume responsibility for the administration of the campaign.
