Brasil Game Jam
The Brasil Game Jam brought together, for 40 hours, 8 teams from different universities throughout Brazil in a "Reality Show" style event. The idea was to develop a game whose theme was related to three words drawn at the beginning of the competition: Priority, Explosion and Bacon. From these words the contestants had to develop a game that was evaluated by the following criteria: Originality, Gameplay, Potential Monetization, Adaptation and Completeness. The winning team was rewarded for their finished product and the appropriateness to the theme.
The winning team was the UNB (National University of Brasilia) with the game Pig Burger, followed by the team from PUC Minas with the game Le Bacon and Univale with Priority Explosive Bacon.
"There was a considerable improvement in the maturity and quality of the games produced this year. This shows how developers better understand the concept of a Game Jam," said Esteban Clua, professor of Computer Science at the Federal Fluminense University(UFF). He hopes that some of these games will become marketable products.
In 2012, seeking to expand its area of ??operation, the Brasil Game Show has become the premiere games fair in this country's two largest cities: Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Beginning with the next edition, the event will be biennial, alternating between the two cities. Between October 11th and 14th next year, São Paulo will host the largest gaming event in Latin America. Now in its fifth edition, the event expects to receive 80,000 visitors over three days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) plus an exclusive day for the press, professionals, officials and guests (Thursday).
